Objective: to determine the relationship between respiratory exercise and symptom control in patients with bronchial asthma. Methods: a prospective, longitudinal and case-control study was designed; It was carried out in the Pediatric Pneumology Outpatient of the Pediatric Service of the Honorio Delgado Regional Hospital; 166 children from 6 to 11 years old were diagnosed with persistent bronchial asthma; complying with the protocol, 25 children in the group of respiratory exercises and 52 children in the group that did not perform exercises. Results: Male sex predominated in the participating children, with a mean age of 7.3 years, with the prevailing moderate persistent asthma class. Conclusion: Respiratory exercises support the control of persistent asthma in children aged 6 to 11 years with outpatient treatment, improving their quality of life.
Ronald Molina-Suclly Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Acta Médica de la UNSA https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/275 Thu, 26 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Cardiac amyloidosis: contribution of nuclear medicine https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/276
The amyloidoses are a group of diseases caused by a pathological extracellular deposit of fibrillar and insoluble protein material called amyloid. Cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is a rare entity (underdiagnosed) and progressive in the general population, it is linked to an error in the folding of certain proteins which are deposited as amyloid fibers in the extracellular space between myocytes, which causes a restrictive cardiomyopathy producing symptoms of heart failure. Even though the definite diagnostic and gold standard for CA traditionally is an endomyocardial biopsy, recent advances in cardiac imaging, diagnostic strategies, and therapies have improved its diagnosis and treatment. Centellogram with Pirofosfato (TcPYP) is now considered a “noninvasive molecular biopsy” used to diagnose CA ATTR.
Mario Beretta-Barreda Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Acta Médica de la UNSA https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/276 Thu, 26 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Hyperhidrosis treated with thoracic sympathectomy in the highlands. Hospital III ESSALUD Juliaca. https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/277
Primary hyperhidrosis is a disorder of excessive sweat production in the palms of the hands and frequently in the armpits, face and soles of the feet. Epidemiological studies have calculated an approximate incidence in the young population between 0.1 and 0.3%. It was carried out in the period between September 2008 and June 2010, the patients were recruited in the thoracic and cardiovascular surgery office of Hospital III Juliaca belonging to Social Security at 3850 meters above sea level, Province of San Román of the Department of Puno in Peru. Twenty-two thoracoscopic bilateral sympathectomy operations were performed, 9 were women and 13 men, the mean age was 37.9 with a range between 17 and 61. Operative incidences were pleural adhesions 9%, alveolopleural fistula 5%, the patient with alveolopleural fistula was necessary use chest drainage for 4 days, and in patients with adhesions, chest drainage was left for 1 day. The average length of stay was 2.3 days, with a range of 1 to 5 days. Postoperative complaints were compensatory sweating 36%, partial recurrence 9%, neuralgia 9%, dizziness 5%. Satisfaction after a year of operation 100%.
Felix Cuba-Flores Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Acta Médica de la UNSA https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/277 Thu, 26 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Comparison of the clinical and funcional characteristics of bronchial asthma among overweight-obese children and eutrophic children admited to the Bronchial Asthma Program of Hospital III EsSalud Yanahuara https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/278
Objective: To establish differences in the clinical and functional characteristics of bronchial asthma between overweight-obese and eutrophic patients admitted to the Bronchial Asthma Program of Hospital III Yanahuara - Arequipa during July and December 2016. Materials and Methods: The participants were divided into groups according to their nutritional status. In addition, the clinical condition and functional assessment of the patients were evaluated with the Asthma Control Test (ACT) and the Exercise Bronchial Provocation Test (EBPT), respectively. The results were analyzed using the chi square test and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: The sample consisted of 91 asthmatic children between 5 and 16 years of age, of which 50.55% were eutrophic, 30.77% overweight and 18.68% obese. The clinical evaluation with the ACT test showed an uncontrolled condition in 63.04% of the eutrophic patients, in 64.29% of the overweight patients, and in 58.82% of the obese patients (p > 0.05). The functional evaluation carried out with the PPBE showed that overweight or obese patients presented significantly lower values of maximum respiratory flow (PEF) compared to eutrophic patients 5 minutes after the start of the test (p ˂ 0.05). Conclusions: Overweight or obese asthmatic patients presented significantly lower peak respiratory flow (PEF) values, indicating decreased lung function even before starting treatment.
Arturo Recabarren-Lozada, Nadia Martinez-Murillo Copyright (c) 2024 Revista Acta Médica de la UNSA https://revistas.unsa.edu.pe/index.php/racm/article/view/278 Thu, 26 Dec 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Simulation at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin de Arequipa.
