Influence of breathing exercises in the control of persistent asthma in children from 6 to 11 years of age at the Honorio Delgado Regional Hospital

Introduction: Bronchial asthma is the most prevalent chronic disease in childhood. Objective: to determine the relationship between respiratory exercise and symptom control in patients with bronchial asthma. Methods: a prospective, longitudinal and case-control study was designed; It was carried out in the Pediatric Pneumology Outpatient of the Pediatric Service of the Honorio Delgado Regional Hospital; 166 children from 6 to 11 years old were diagnosed with persistent bronchial asthma; complying with the protocol, 25 children in the group of respiratory exercises and 52 children in the group that did not perform exercises. Results: Male sex predominated in the participating children, with a mean age of 7.3 years, with the prevailing moderate persistent asthma class. Conclusion: Respiratory exercises support the control of persistent asthma in children aged 6 to 11 years with outpatient treatment, improving their quality of life.
