Construction and psychometric properties of the Psychological Reactance Inventory (IRPS-25) in adolescents from the city of Trujillo, 2025

The general objective of the study was to determine the construction and psychometric properties of the Psychological Reactance Inventory (IRPS-25) in adolescents from the city of Trujillo, 2025. The research was observational, non-experimental, instrumental, cross-sectional, prospective and descriptive, focused on a single variable without establishing causal relationships. The population consisted of 1,144,134 adolescents between 12 and 17 years old from Trujillo, and the sample was 400 participants selected through non-probability convenience sampling. They were divided into two groups of 200 to perform exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, respectively. A structured survey was applied, guaranteeing the validity and reliability of the data collected. The results indicated that the IRPS-25 has adequate levels of content validity, internal and convergent structure, as well as high internal reliability. It is concluded that the instrument is valid and reliable for assessing psychological reactance in adolescents, in accordance with the theoretical postulates of Brehm (1966).
